With Father’s Day being celebrated on June 17, 2012, it seems appropriate to take a moment and talk about Men’s Health Week, June 11-17, 2012. Reportedly, Men’s Health Week was designated by the US Congress back in 1994 to occur during the week prior to Father’s Day. (Graphic courtesy of duchesssa via rgbstock.com) It has grown to be a global international effort since 2002 recognized and reportedly now promoted in Africa, Asia, Australia, Austria, Canada, Central America, Denmark, UK (England, Scotland &Wales), Netherlands, South America, and the United States. International Men’s Health Week as part of International Men’s Health Month provides a rich opportunity for many terrific

Since this blog post is Part 2 of 4 in a series focusing on how food and nutrition consumption can potentially influence prostate cancer prevention, incidence & progression, treatment, and survivorship, let’s review how the intake of a rainbow of fruits and vegetables mentioned in part 1 of 4 can actually be part of the silver lining in the clouds surrounding this type of cancer diagnosis. Celebrity Chefs Echoing Food Portion of RD Food & Nutrition Messages
Fame. It influences people, whether members of the public are willing to admit that or not. Fame allows others to get their message out and have the opportunity for it to possibly be heard. RDs have been trying to convince people for decades that taking “small steps” when it comes to eating real food and changing food buying, storage, preparation and eating patterns do matter–that they can really make a HUGE collective difference in people’s lives when all those small steps are added together. Yet many people have simply either ignored/tuned out the RDs in far too many instances, or

Farmers Markets, USDA, and You
Ah, spring time is in the air in some parts of the country. Spring time makes us think of existing or upcoming Farmers Markets and their wonderful, fresh, local bounty that is available to any & all consumers willing to make the extra effort to shop there. (Photo of flowering peach tree courtesy of Berenika at rgbstock.com) The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) though its Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has a website for its USDA AMS Farmers Market awareness program. 2012 Easter Candy Sales (Including Chocolate) Expected in the Billions
The National Retail Federation expects Easter candy sales (of all types of candy, including chocolate) to top 2 billion in 2012. Chia Seeds Get A Thumbs Up!
Are you old enough to remember Chia Pets being sold in drug stores for Christmas presents? It turns out that the Chia Seeds themselves may pack a lot more nutritional punch than many people thought… Chia Seeds Photo featuring white, black, or white and black chia seeds By Cyanocorax in 2006
Champagne High Tea or Elite Elegant Tea at Sea
Back from our most recent cruise trip, we thought we would share our personal impressions of Champagne High Tea for-a-fee at sea for a single afternoon as compared to an elite tier loyalty program Elegant Tea at sea. The Champagne High Tea appears to be slightly more elaborate than the now discontinued part-of-the-cruise-fare High Tea used to be onboard. Champagne High Tea is offered to any cruise guests booking it in advance of the afternoon seating in the specialty European inspired cover charge restaurant onboard the ship.
Memories of Dining at Sea
Having returned from a holiday at sea, we thought you might enjoy a little “behind the scenes” look into some of what it takes to feed some 2,000 or more guests on board a luxury Five Star cruise ship at sea. Original color photo was a gift courtesy of Celebrity Cruise Lines (decreased in size, antiqued, and blur edged vignette effects adjusted for this blog posting; I’m in the back row on the right as you look at the photo).
